In May 2019, World Health Organisation (WHO) reported Globally 264 million people are suffering from depression, which is one of the leading causes of disability. Absenteeism costs the South African economy between R12 billion and R16 billion each year with much of it relating to work place stress, burnout syndrome and employee health. WHO has recognised “burn-out” in its latest classification of diseases (ICD), which is widely used as a benchmark for diagnosis for health-insurers. With an increase in stress and burnout becoming more and more of a threat to business survival and production, the need for emotional and mental wellness services has now become a requisite. Managers, supervisor and HR do not cover this in their respective scope or mandate and do not have the time or skills to combat this problem.
